What is a tachograph card?
A tachograph card is a chip card the size of a credit card. The card is used in conjunction with the digital tachograph in the vehicle.
The card allows the cardholder to be identified, and the driving & rest time data to be transmitted and stored.
There are 4 types of tachograph cards:
- Driver card
- Company card
- Workshop card
- Control card
Driver card
The driver must have a personal driver card if he/she is to drive a vehicle equipped with a digital tachograph.

A driver card can be ordered physically at the Danish Transport Agency (find offices below) or digitally at Borger.dk. Remember a digital passport photo.

Companies that have vehicles with a tachograph must obtain a company card.
A company card can be ordered from the Danish Transport Authority in two ways.

As an active driver on TachoManagement , you will be reminded by text message 60, 30 and 14 days before expiry.
An expired driver card is invalid and will not be read in the tachograph. However, data may still be stored on an expired driver card, which must be read before it is destroyed.
It is not allowed to drive without a driver card if the reason is that the driver card has expired and you are waiting for a new one.
Company card for tachograph
Every company that has vehicles with a digital tachograph must obtain a company card. A company card must be used to log into the vehicle's tachograph at start-up, as well as when reading tachograph data. A company card is linked to a company registration number and a new company card must therefore be ordered if a new company registration number is obtained. It is also important to log in to the tachograph with the new company card when it arrives in the post. The company card must be ordered via the Danish Road Administration and there is a delivery time of approximately 10 working days. It costs DKK 525 for a company card.
